1. Slow-time Pen-Friendship.
I sent my friend a real letter with some real drawings and some real poetry snippets and she sent me back a real letter, with real drawings and real, embroidered leaves. When I got her letter, it made me beam from the inside out.
2. The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy.
I just finished this and its brilliance is still unfurling in my imagination. It’s poetic and lambent yet still insightful and important. It’s everything that I wished Midnight’s Children had been (sorry Mr. Rushdie, you are stunningly clever but I found your work misanthropic and a bit depressing). Her descriptions, at times were so perfect that I wanted to bottle them and the way her narrative hovers deftly between languages and imaginations is magnificent.
3. My Boy.
Such a special one. This photo was taken by our good friend Annabel who is here in Austin for a few months from the UK. It has been wonderful to make friends with someone fresh-from-the-homeland.
