…birds. It’s my own little self-assigned project. I do have a plan in mind but for now I am drawing birds over and over until I find the ones that sing. Most of them are donkers* so far.

Cybele Young draws great birds. I tried to be like her.

Tail-feather confusion, must be the shaking that did it.

Blackbird. My favourite so far. Being right handed, it’s a real struggle to draw birds with their beaks to the right (try it, you’ll see what I mean).
*Donk is the new word I invented this week. It emulates the sound one makes when hitting a glass door that they did not realise was there. It refers to the experience one has when attempting to get somewhere or achieve something but falling short or hitting an unforeseen obstacle. SEE ALSO glass ceiling.

I think I have daily donks going on right now. Ha, ha. I really like these! Especially the last one, like your lines are more assured… and then you get closer to attitude, too. I’ve been looking at a lot of animal illustrations lately… I really love them.
I really liked the first one and the blackbird.
Just yesterday I began to be interested in birds. I was reading a Guide to National Birds book while Posie was doing puzzles at the library and I was intrigued by all the things they “say”. They have a “voice” section for every bird to describe, by onomatopoeias or actual words, what they say when they sing/call.
It’s amazing!!! I began a poem about it. Coming soon!
