Reading: The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. Gratefully reading it, I should say. That and Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe – sigh, bit hard to get into but yes, I am relieved that my moral character won’t be tainted by reading it.
Drawing: These are the (very) raw beginnings of a couple of bits and bobs I have been working on.
Writing: nothing more exciting than to-do lists right now.
Learning: German. I bought myself 1000 German vocabulary cards. They are going to be my “something to do whilst breastfeeding.”
Watching: Sherlock, a BBC drama that borrows shamelessly from Guy Ritchie’s film but y’know, well borrowed, well appropriated and all that. It’s a good watch.
Enjoying: Friends. Our friends have been truly wonderful over the last few weeks, so wonderful that I have found myself welling up on several occasions and I ain’t no cryer. They’ve helped us in practical ways that mean the world and generally just made us feel so cheered on and loved. A highlight was our Stoney family baby shower the other week. We got a full on Texas blessing and thanks to some clever secret emailing, a big fat British one too courtesy of our families. I bawled my eyes out and as I have said, I ain’t no cryer.
Waiting: 5 days away from my due date. Now I have to say, if you’re in any way self-employed, this stage makes you feel a bit like a time bomb. I’ve been whacking out to-dos like I’m starring in a Charlie Chaplin movie; same speed, same silence, same slightly wild stare….when’s the lunar, rocking chair, nursery decorating part going to happen?
